About our Child Care & Preschool Center in Durham

My name is Katrina Williams-Downing and I am the Director of Childcare Network #166. I started working in the Early Childhood Education field in 1994 as a Teacher Assistant with the Infant Program. In 1995 I started the continuity of care and stayed with my infants until they turned 3 years old. This opportunity allowed me to work in all programs within the Early Childhood field. I hold an Associate Degree in ECE, a BA in Human Resource, and I am working towards obtaining a Masters in Education Administration.

Since I was 12 years old I knew I wanted to work with children. I loved babysitting and I started working in the church’s Sunday school program. But it really hit me when I was trying to decide what I wanted to study in school. I tried Accounting, Business, Law and nothing gave me the satisfaction like working in Early Childhood Education. That was the moment I really knew I wanted to work with children.

As the school director, I want to enhance all the great things that are already taking place. I want to take us to the next level, to help make the school better and better. Our caring and loving staff implement age-appropriate curriculum that is designed to stimulate the emotional, physical, and intellectual growth of our students. Our school strives to create a warm, loving environment for all children, parents, and staff.  We provide care for children 6 weeks through 12 years of age, offer full-time childcare.  In addition, we have a before and after school program; which is our Young Achievers Club, and our Adventure Summer Camp program for schoolagers. We also provide transportation to and from selected public schools.

My goal is to help our children become life-long learners before they go off to kindergarten. It’s not only important for them to be able to recite their ABC’s or 123’s or read a book but I want them to have good communication skills, understand empathy, respect themselves and others, to love reading and writing, and have the ability to explore math, science and technology and love it.

I would love to show you around our school, have you meet our great staff, and learn about our curriculum. Please feel free to stop by or schedule a tour with us.  We look forward to hearing from you soon!
